Objectives

List of objectives
Task name Description Stage
"Create a cleaned up and fully styled main page" The Main Page should be as well structured as possible to find things you search very fast. See discussion page! planned
Integration with forum login system When user is logged to forum there is no need for him to login separately to wiki. It could be done automatically. development
Forms on wiki We are working on implementing form feature within wiki. That should allow us develop user friendly functionalities like for example adding localizations to maps by clicking and processing sended by users data etc. development
Wiki organization This solution is dedicated to implement intuitive and easy to navigate interface which will allow efficient cooperation among members, teams and will help to manage wiki system itself. initial
Help system We see that there is need to take care about this issue. We are already working on Step by step introduction, help for members and for editors. There are also already works on FAQ. development
Translations The goal is to translate content of wiki to various languages. Many people is working on that already here. development
Feedback system This is idea to collect specially designed object information about projects, groups, members skills, suggestions, questions, languages, actions, map localizations etc. directly from pages in real time and to make available this data to everyone. When somebody choose to put those informations (this is voluntary issue) on his private and protected page or on project page, then the system will be able (in real time) for example to address messages directly to other users, maps, projects contributors or other groups and display results on any page. Even on the same user page. Intuitive interface is planed. development
Templates This is very important system issue which will allow a better management of wiki content. By this means we will be able to bring in improvements regardless of languages, page namespace etc. on hundreds of thousands pages in the same time. Solutions should be general and allow to customize settings according to environment parameters. development
Wiki project/Skin This part of project is dedicated to design and maintain skin for Zeitgeist Movement Wiki. (More information on subpage Wiki project/Skin) done
RSS/Mail Subscriber To use this feature switch to the history of a particular page and click RSS or ATOM button (link on toolbox menu). This is content distribution improvement. This feature is needed to enable us subscribing to only chosen pages. That way information about changes in topics, especially interesting for individuals, is automatically distribute. done
Graphics and banners We need wiki to be more comfortable and pleasant place. New skin was design to help achieve this. Now we are able to put on every page a unique banner related to subject of particular page. The banners size is 1190x108 px (note: skin is test phase so it can change). We may also import here icons and pictures which had been released on GPL license. development

Ideas, feature requests bugs reports

Ideas

  • The problem: Using the tabbed module the content sections become hard to link to. Say I want a link to the "chapters" section on the mainpage (example: Main_Page#Welcome), on normal wiki articles this is no problem (example: Activist_Orientation_Guide#Preface) but with the tabs we don't have any url. It is confusing both with sending links and clicking the back button while the tabs offer such useful and elegant interface.
The solution: Hack the module to make the tabs jump to their appropriate url and have nice permanent links to "dynamic" content.
  1. In the tab links, the current href="javascript:void(nul)" should be replaced so that it opens the appropriate location hash #chapters.
  2. The tabbed interface should have the appropriate named anchors.<a name="chapters"></a> to avoid the page jumping to the #top. Those anchors are already in place.
  3. Onload the interface should switch to the appropriate tab.
Note: I have no idea which tabs extension is being used, the implementation of the above might be more complicated than beneficial. (questions?)

Requests

  • Is it possible to be logged in automatically as it was before? That was really convenient. [In the making]
  • Change the colour scheme for the Wiki. Light on black is BAD for the eyes![Solved]
  • It is suggested that the frame for wiki is too short, it should be considerably 'longer' [Solved]
  • Match color scheme and get rid of scroll bars - making it 'longer'. Also the 'frame solution' makes it hard to link and refresh as it resets the frame to default page every time unless you use direct link and then you lose webpage integration.[Solved] Note: the scroll bars are gone. Does anyone want to cretae a MediaWiki theme for this?
  • <ref>, </ref>, and <reference/> tags do not seem to work appropriately, is this by design? Using a numbered list works, but does not allow for footnotes pointing to specific references. ADMIN TO-DO: NOTE: To solve that we need to install this extension[Solved]
  • Apply Solution 2 for the wiki organisation so that all the wiki contant becomes easily accessible from the home page. Right now it's impossible to navigate through, and subsequently it's very hard to organise translations as well. 4v4l0n42 20:54, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Bugs

  • Some pages are displaying with missing characters and/or code, making them unreadable. For example, as well as this one, this one, and this one, among many others.
This seems to happen when a page contains some characters as well as... (I can't type these characters because there is a bug). I have deleted these characters on the spanish wiki main page. I hope someone may correct this bug.[Solved]
  • There is a problem with compatibility between the URL's slashes ( / ) and the current languages system. For example, let's visit the Wiki project/Wiki structure and you will see that on the inotherlanguagesbox at the left it appears the english language. It wrongly links to this page.
  • Wiki diffs are unreadable due to white text on white background. (Refers to comparisons between historical and current versions of pages) [Solved]
  • Blue text on black background is sometimes hard to read. Suggestion: Make headers white and links some other color (orange? green?) [Solved] Note: links could be orange regardless of visited status tough ;)
  • Inside-wiki links open in wiki frame producing forum inside forum. This could be solved with 'target' property of links?[Solved]
  • Unvisited link to written article is white/light gray and in default theme hard to find and its color suggests 'not yet written' article. Can we change color of those unvisited links for example to different hue of yellow than the one used to visited links? [Solved]
  • There is no interface for russian language. [Solved]
  • Greek (ελληνικά) pages not present in "In other languages" (but present in "language of interface"). For example see Transition Plan (there is "greek" link present and "ελληνικά" is absent in "In other languages" list)

Note: We have installed a free-standing wiki, and an extension to integrate forum and wiki logins.
